@codinghorror
@mpjme real time is presence indicators (here, away) and typing indicators

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@SamuraiBeanDog it is 13 x 21 inches, 14 inches tall. typical bartop size

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jpluscplusm People aren’t supposed to be having conversations in comments so the tooling is intentionally minimal for comments

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
and yeah, the whole "voice OVER the original soundtrack" in the yellow countries sounds like a nightmare too!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
I like how they keep making it even *harder*. It seems like the three finishers in 2012 (the documentary year!) offended the race organizers, or something https://t.co/oj2msbKcGn

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Noahpinion @AtcrankA @QasimRashid @jonrog1 snopes themselves changed this from "mixture" to "true" based on the notes at the bottom of the article

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Krull. The game (and the movie) was kinda meh, but man it had visual and audio style https://t.co/49Z8GeZxNb

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Oh and how could I forget Nichibutsu's Crazy Climber. I used to *force* my parents to take me to South of the Border (at the time we lived in SC) just so I could play that one. https://t.co/1VatuzBMca

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@SamFeds have you played the unreleased sequel? No I'm serious. It's.. kind of disturbing. https://t.co/khZGhOojhd

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
updated my firmware, of course https://t.co/DyRBbNziKV

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@johnolilly yeah but Discord has *precisely* the right demographic: 17-18 year olds

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@johnolilly we need Discord to put in that "everyone go vote" notice in 2020. I'm deadly serious

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@lizardbill what is even happening

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@kevinmontrose @sassiestone positivity is overrated!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@eddyluten It is! But not SPLIT hacking!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jwz @Carnage4Life oh no! my device security and built-in adblock have both improved!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@xor more old people should vape so they can demonstrate how uncool it is

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mpjme it's the real time stuff that is problematic

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg the disconnect here is this article was written by someone who clearly didn't try using both services. One is intensely painful; the other is pleasant to the point that it makes your job *easier*.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
- We felt busier, but were getting less real work done
- We knew the clients better personally, but we knew the product less
- We had more superficial conversations, but fewer substantive ones
- We were able to react more quickly, but our responses were less measured & effective

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@seesharp @matvelloso best case ever, seriously. Exactly the right size for optimal awesome

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life the massively declining price of solar and batteries will solve ICE over time, that's already happening. Not sure about "plastics"

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life the genie can't be kept in the bottle no matter what.. even if 5% of people do it, everyone is interrelated enough https://t.co/XjrUFNAHJP so it's better to plan for the future rather than plowing our heads in the sand

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life if we catch even one Golden State killer via DNA, it's worth it. This stuff has to be regulated at the national government level anyways

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@GerardoLijs @chx no, he's right, there is a point of diminishing returns.. but it is at the first PCI NVMe M.2 level above SATA. Beyond that, additional disk perf is mostly of interest for servers.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jcoehoorn having to open it constantly might be a PITA though

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Beschizza what was the actual word? a-hole?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jaredchung @discourse I am not attending, but others from Discourse will be there

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Michael_MXP it is typical bartop sized, not mini

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@bryandfleming pretty standard arcade buttons + sticks, over particle board, covered with plexi

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@AMadHammer I am an all earthquake all the time kinda guy

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@bryandfleming the screens are excellent, definitely IPS, that's the main thing I was worried about.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
I have a Pandora’s Box 6 head to head model now and I gotta say NO RAGRETS https://t.co/gEyMsYiK25

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@cshirky Negroponte sure Leeroy Jenkinsed the shit out of that one

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@tqbf none of us is as dumb as all of us, Thomas Ptacek

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Beschizza I re-watched the series recently (silence, dragon, hannibal) and the later movies, especially hannibal, don't hold up well. Even though it deviated from the book in arguably better ways?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@tqbf my excuse is that I created crypto stack exchange! What's yours 😉

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Control is a great showcase for RTX + physics effects on nVidia cards and it's so *weeeeeird* .. in a good way. Here's a room full of clocks! https://t.co/MNGIhkEflM

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@rossrubin WHYYY OH GOD WHYYYYYY

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@tobermatt I'm saying stupid ceremonies matter, even though they're stupid. The "stupidity" is not the point, taking a vow in public (that you can obviously break at any time because Ain't Nobody The Boss of You) does have value.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@tobermatt well technically so is a wedding..

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@stevesi @rossrubin @harrymccracken I feel like there was an inflection point around 2011 or so where most UI / UX innovation moved to smartphones and the web. I looooved trawling new releases of Word for WinAPI UI innovations back in the day though!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
per https://t.co/QtAaL1X6Wo these lifetime codes are still valid after 23 years, so have at it!!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@ftrain I love this photo so much

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@tobermatt I am so there for Pre-Punch People™

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@tobermatt ring boys or GTFO

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
sorry I meant their first Juul pod

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
they have a nwe HD texture pack and even a new expansion so it's worth revisiting if you are interested. Still fun, and you *probably* didn't previously play through as all 5 classes yet.. I hope.. for your sake

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@durumcrustulum good news!! https://t.co/0ZlHSPYoNe

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@kayvz thank you! 💖 While in there, can you also add the ability to support more than one hardware key? Like many people, I sometimes lose things 😫

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@sajidnizami that support is already there and works fine, but you can only add one key, which is dumb

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
confirmed, after quite a bit of experimentation there is also no workaround. Removing phone removes ALL forms of 2FA, whether you do it from mobile app or web.
Great work Twitter. Just excellent.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@RyanWHeff @mayankdotnet @0xdade This 100% does NOT work even from mobile. You should retract these tweets. https://t.co/YZlHxSWEh6

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
arrgh but because Twitter is insane, removing your phone number ALSO disables hardware security key two factor auth https://t.co/yx6khIk3iE

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Confirmed working https://t.co/xA2KiaZ3rn

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
You can remove the number from the mobile apps but not web https://t.co/6XIvFp94vx

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
to be clear this is bad because the only "auth" on the phone is that you control the SIM and that's.. not reliable because telcos suck super hard

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Joshua_Skootsky @thesaganman Did you guys actually watch the video? Some of the nicer u-locks took 4 minutes to cut through, and required multiple batteries and multiple tungsten cutting wheels.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
“It is worth noting that none of the exploits bypassed the new, PAC-based JIT hardenings that are enabled on A12 devices ... The exploits we found did not include a bypass for PAC enabled devices and instead bailed out if they ran on an A12 device.”

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
The buried lede here, if you read closely, is that A12 has hardware mitigation that prevented a lot of this. Don’t be “that guy”. Recommend the new hardware which has the best and latest security.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@cube_drone not really, if the service is shut down, then it's gone. You basically paid them to go away and do something else.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@NooShoes no, because it's not a viable competitor except when artificially propped up by a massive parent org

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@NooShoes I guess China is the "other long term solution" but that's a nation states struggle more than anything else.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@NooShoes therein lies the problem

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@NooShoes it's actually rather the opposite of helpful if it is cleverly masking the fact that no *real* competition exists.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@chetfaliszek this tweet made me laugh. "Yeah, it's fine to not like bernie if you totally suck, but some of us have decided NOT to suck."

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@chetfaliszek he was already super old in 1992!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@0xabad1dea I actually laughed out loud when I read this

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@eviltrout time for some canyoning!! 😓

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg I recently tried a quarter pounder to test this theory and.. yeah, he's right

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg I admire Stripe quite a lot (and we use them, they're fantastic) but the primary lesson from Stripe is not "be optimistic" but "be where the money is".

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@joshmillard wow that's a .. creative .. choice

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
also apparently in the UK, U locks are called.. D locks?! That's what colour their world is.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life @mathowie y'all need to set up Pi-Hole on your home network, it's fantastic and I've had zero "why does the site no longer work" issues since I set it up https://t.co/bWdlsDYc1k
