Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mathowie @Carnage4Life I think this is a step beyond what FF does

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life yeah mobile is the real wildcard here, I doubt Desktop Safari will make much of a difference since people can easily switch browsers

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life they should do it. if it breaks enough stuff, people will just stop using desktop Safari .. though it is true Mobile Safari users will be in quite a tough 🥒 given the lack of real options for browsers on iOS

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@kevindente Apple has forsaken you! I think long press with device shake will still be there, though?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Like literally triple clicking a mouse has better usability than 3D touch 😖

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
But honestly what's not to love about "press harder! no not that hard! Too hard again! Softer! No not quite that soft!"

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
I disabled this feature years ago and forgot it existed (again) until I read this article

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@wilshipley WHOA disney is making a laptop?!?!?!?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@johnolilly give Sinner season 2 a try, it's way up there for tough to watch as well. Very good though

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@fmajowich @Tesla ironically, they might pull an Apple and declare their software is so awesome it would be lessened by optional carplay integration.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@textfiles nice, I'll see if I can make it so I can harass you in person rather than just digitally

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
it is hard to express exactly how much this movie blew my mind as a teenager https://t.co/5WuKcf8aCR

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@stevesi @OmarShahine not really "the operating system" though is it. Also, a weird place to do that!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@stevesi @OmarShahine It blows my mind that it took 20 years to get basic clipboard history in Windows

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@named_none Yeah I was gonna mention that one but I figured others would, it was fairly popular in sci-fi circles. Definitely worth a watch, though I found it a tad predictable.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@dehora @adrianfcole Defaults are pretty much the whole game

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mckaywrigley recently, Upgrade (2018)

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@sonicRaf matching hashes, that's how passwords are stored, not plain text

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jamesthomson Needs real D100 though. They are hilarious! And the number embossing effect seems a bit off to me? Other than that, brilliant work!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jamesthomson It’s *really* well done. Kudos.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@bitpixi Yes but this was WILDLY out of context, I mean not within 700 nautical miles of the actual thing being discussed

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@andrenaleen Never forget

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@textfiles here's a guy who had a SUUUUPER bad divorce

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@textfiles yeah I can sometimes hold my nose if the creator isn't TOO bad but this guy is grade A++++ hideous

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@achkasov pff that lacks GPU and RTX effects

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
There I fixed it https://t.co/MBkZm2L4j8

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
"That's why it makes you feel good when you tell them it was just a joke." -- Jack Handey

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@OmarShahine This needs a lot more pictures it is too text heavy

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@bryanray The car software supports timers as a built in feature, I think almost all EVs have this

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
I am not sure how I survived this

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life see also https://t.co/GlEx32pviZ

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
And yes, it certainly helps if your founder isn’t a rage-filled sociopath

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@kalimatafsiri About 250 mile range. We don’t drive a lot, I work from home

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@cbonsig @randygarcia Yeah it feels unnecessary

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Remember when I said electric cars feel kinda like giant smartphones? This one has a 3 bar “battery charge” indicator right on the dash. 3 green bars = full. https://t.co/wcJbdCLurJ

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jeffwhelpley @lowellheddings well I was being optimistic, probably more like 200 years

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@DocPop I re read this recently and man, huge swaths of this did NOT age well. Central idea is solid.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@NateTheFinch @lowellheddings Yeah that's true, I can see your point there. Still, the obstacle to virtually everything at this point is 🍊🤡 so.. what is there to discuss? That's the clear, obvious, and only course of action.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@ncrow yeah I know, but the motion detection is really iffy for me. I'd rather switch it into "only on explicit button press" mode if I could (but I can't)

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
surveillers gonna surveil

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
I would prefer it if it cached ~5 seconds of video locally and then only dumped it to the cloud on "event" (button press) rather than always unconditionally streaming to the 🤡, but oh well

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@EricRichards22 well it's definitely dead now, if it wasn't before

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Beschizza yeah, that and a few other categories of product show this off perfectly. Mini-PCs for example (which I love). Recently, I looked at arcade machines (pandora's box), same thing.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
The other funny thing is that every credit and debit card I have absolutely loses their 💩 over “fraud prevention” when I order directly from aliexpress, but if I order *exactly* the same product through a thinly disguised Amazon reseller, totes fine

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
also major props to @oddheader for a) reading the game's credits b) identifying the texture artists c) contacting them all d) ultimately getting the actual story from the real people. It was damn near.. journalism?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
I researched this more and, hilariously, there are pirate versions of the PIRATE VERSIONS. "Pandora's Box 9" is a cheap clone ripoff of .. Pandora's Box 6. Which is of course a bunch of completely ripped off unlicensed ROMs to start with 🤣

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg naw, it's gonna be JavaScript

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@betsyphd Also I couldn't use my primary google account, either, because it was a paid "G suite" account. That Strategy Tax is a hell of a drug my friends. A *hell* of a drug.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@betsyphd let's just say this path .. was not easy to figure out

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@chaosaltar depends how much you drive on the daily; if you drive less than 40 miles a day you can literally get away with an extension cord at any power outlet, anywhere

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jonobacon not a day over 30 either of you 😎

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life @kevindente also there's a reason the WhatsApp founders got the hell out. No way they'd support the facebook changes to their app, they didn't, but they took billions on the way out of course

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@stevesi 250 is a very good number. I think 300 will happen soon as well, and at that point "range anxiety" becomes.. obsolete IMO

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life @kevindente I think it's the other way around; as part of a large org you are beholden to arbitrary targets you don't get to set.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@ZachWeiner shoot it with a gun and put it on youtube, that'll show 'em

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@QuinnyPig @susanthesquark did.. did.. they find the treasure

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@susanthesquark BART shoulda been used for this route

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@kevindente @Carnage4Life being their own entity means they could set stricter policies about what they allow rather than being subjected to the whims of mega-parent-company. When's the last time someone complained about white supremacists on Vimeo?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life seriously? Being free from The Strategy Tax! Remember YouTube being forced to add Google+ features? Instagram being able to set its own policies that better reflect its userbase

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@andrewje_home still early days without a doubt. You could get an electric scooter, pop it in the trunk, park at a nearby charging station for work, and then electric scoot into work 😏

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@LaceySnr I will be looking at the Model Y, if it's ever available.. I am guessing 2022?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@chaosaltar yeah you gotta charge at 1) home 2) work 3) shopping so it'll need to be work or shopping in your case!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@tobermatt @eviltrout yeah plus if you are in a high rise urban area, the electrical infra is all around you

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@seesharp send lots and lots of money https://t.co/gkRKNutrAo

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@eviltrout @msl0t sorry more like 10 hours at 4 miles/hour, so 40 miles of charge with a plain vanilla extension cord to the wall. Thus it depends how many miles you drive every day..

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Pinboard aren't we helping it plenty already?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@clayheaton @lowellheddings no, that'd be Doom.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@bioxcession @lowellheddings I liked Mario 64 though!! A lot, actually.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@migueldeicaza oh man it would be a real shame if anything happened to that sticker

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@atgarone @aaron_mciver @EricRichards22 oh yeah 5 dudes and golf clubs, not a full charge, sounds like a recipe for.. challenges. That is an "absolutely start with full charge" scenario from the forum topic!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@aaron_mciver @atgarone @EricRichards22 So I think your neighbor is kinda mistaken, or at least, that contradicts what multiple other people have posted online 🤷♂️

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@aaron_mciver @atgarone @EricRichards22 That doesn't seem right; it's only a 116 mile drive per Google Maps. People were doing it in 2014 per this topic https://t.co/ofopQRioVg

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@magnayn mostly it's just .. funny. I don't think it's trying to be a serious movie. Check out The Lobster!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@janoc200 you definitely didn't watch the video and have apparently made up your mind. Look at the actual stats on 10 year old electrics, they're out there. Battery replacement rates are VERY low, and that was with 10 year old battery tech!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@ClumsyPilot You can factor in solar and many other converging trends, too.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@atgarone @aaron_mciver @EricRichards22 aren't there multiple supercharger locations between those two points?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@f0da @chetfaliszek @marc_laidlaw HL2 enemy AI does not feel smart in any way, at all, whatsoever. It's just bad.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@chetfaliszek @marc_laidlaw what killed HL2 for me is that the enemy AI is so atrociously bad. Especially depressing since HL1 had such interesting enemy AIs https://t.co/tpI9AdP8Ed

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@nberardi Read the blog post comments for context, it was someone else’s situation not mine.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@aaron_mciver @SwissTeslaphile @EricRichards22 @Tesla As long as you have access to a level 3 charger, 1 hour of parking (while eating, etc) will get you to 80% charge no problem.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@andrewje_home 1. Home 2. Work 3. Shopping / Movies / Stores — one or more of those places.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@scottkorin Montana, ND, SD, and Wyo are .. uh .. “special” when it comes to level 3 chargers https://t.co/4ugkqV0yAw

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@MicahToll @ElectrekCo "nope protocol initiated" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@MicahToll @ElectrekCo oh nice I'm loving your site! Are you reviewing the other fast one yet, the mantis?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
[image missing]

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
This is weird/great in the same way that The Lobster was. And I looooved The Lobster!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
hey @mathowie there are parts of ths article that are highly resonant of the NPR piece on "The End of Empathy".
