@codinghorror
@erraggy yes! Linking, back and forth .. so simple yet so powerful. Reminds me of Google's Pagerank ;)

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
When in doubt, PLANT TREES! https://t.co/3u4ZJySv2e

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@ssylvan @ID_AA_Carmack great! Let's see how it goes!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
but the Odyssey 2! Such advancement! https://t.co/zPjsDUKA1j

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@JamesMcCormack Yeah kinda the opposite of mess free

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jmkmrk81 @sargeanincharge @ClayTravis nah, all the science shows that masks work. Americans are just tired of being mildly inconvenienced, I guess. We need to toughen up.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Conanbatt Oh, I see, so I can say “I am the king of France!” and I win by default?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@TomWinzig @aidiin nobody thought of it as a "niche business" based on the level of investment and interest. You are retconning here.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@susanthesquark it's excellent clickbait, and that's everything

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Thanks to a contributor, we now have the original 101 games runnable in the browser via JavaScript, and the number of target "memory safe + scripting" languages has expanded to 10: https://t.co/xqMEr6L72Z https://t.co/7c0yqfRw35

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Dude is also on Twitter. Will leave that as an exercise for the reader

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@danluu this is why I prefer to build general purpose tools, like Stack Overflow and Discourse

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@chrisbrandow well, yes, but I didn't want to get into that whole topic

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Conanbatt if the matter is serious, post the proof. It's very simple. If you want to "win", then win.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Conanbatt regardless, if there's ever actual proof, feel free to post it. Consider it a challenge!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mathowie all about those sweet, sweet clicks

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@gknauss would be a darn shame if anything accidentally happened to that spot

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@justindoeswork ah thanks! you'd need to tell them directly though

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@bootrino I believe the best answers are in the first 10-20 stack overflow podcast epsiodes https://t.co/R6mvjfVRLB

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg If we ever obtain actual proof that it is true or false let me (and anyone else following this thread) know. I'm fine either way, but I do like to see concrete proof when talking about people I don't trust, based on past behavior.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@ReneKriest that's clearly an Apple // my friend ;)

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@v5hal @kestanekiran yeah! We watched this one actually. Such a perfect superhero movie... maybe the actual *best* superhero movie. Certainly in contention.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@lizardbill @Nick_Craver aha. "enabled by the advent of computer-based non-linear editing systems in 1989 .. made it easy to quickly edit hours of video footage into a usable form .. very difficult to do before .. film, which was easy to edit, was too expensive to use in shooting for many hours"

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@lizardbill @Nick_Craver did MTV also invent the reality TV genre? Who did? This person? https://t.co/VgYJNRkGL3

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
this does kinda explain the fascination with crypto and NFT, though.. grift is hot right now

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Ukraine flags popping up everywhere https://t.co/wki8agYu5k

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jnoahmorgan so awesome thank you for sharing this moment with us 👏

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@textfiles I got you! I can cover the cost, DM me a paypal address

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@dmschulman @paulg generally yes but we'd need specific, concrete examples.. and to acknowledge that positivity can become toxic, too.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@patio11 usually you'd require one minimum daily play session to accumulate the daily reward, in the fine print.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg another analog is choosing between toxic negativity, or toxic positivity. Neither is great, but if you're going to err, erring on the site of positive is somewhat better.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@splattne The casual "stabbed a colleague" sentence near the bottom there is a little.. odd..

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@isonno @arstechnica I was wondering about *exactly this*! Thank you! 🙇

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg I don't know if it is true or false, but I don't trust Luckey, and I don't see this as the sort of kind, lighthearted, "everyone wins" subject that a bet is appropriate for.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg I mean, there's a lot of thoughts in my head that I don't say out loud. Does that make me a bad .. thinker?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg “What are the things she’s afraid to write about? She never actually says, although she mentions “gender” suggestively a few times, and expresses a lot of sympathy for Brock Turner, the Stanford student Hepola takes pains to point out wasn’t technically, legally, “a rapist.””

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg I appreciate the offer, but I don't want anything to do with Luckey.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg The whole article is clickbait, frankly. I think writers can and should do better than that.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg I don't view Luckey as a trustable guy, personally. If they're using the technology, then there should be some form of proof.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg "probably"? That's Theranos territory..

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@robinlavallee @paulg the article is literally click-bait

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulg if you have to write an article hand-wringing about how difficult it is to write about things, maybe you aren't a very good writer

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@skrenta I try to keep my expectations as low as possible :)

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Carnage4Life @Carnage4Lifese if it comes up again, tweet and we'll report 🤝

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@skrenta it does, if you scope it to your own tweets (or another person's tweets), that's the only way I ever use it.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Hanzo55 Wolf does it better and is more succinct.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@lexfridman this is why the movie "Don't Look Up" is an oscar nom. We've been taking all of this for granted, for decades. https://t.co/oyilyM0AvO

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@ID_AA_Carmack It’s very very dark. Right up there with Handmaids Tale (which is even grimmer in recent video series form)

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Supermathie Oh, Ranch Dressing?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@TedDennison Yes! I noticed this too. I think it means “sound but not directly caused by anything in the scene”

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Since people asked I use UrbanStems and it has worked well so far: https://t.co/jCETecIRQD p.s. I hope you were born lucky enough to have a relatively sane mother!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@osirisguitar I've only used the yellow (one step above the softest) to clean tiles so far, but yes!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@johne_erhardt I have two!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jeffehobbs That is why we have TWO pockets!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@nattsw @brwngrldev that could be because people are more likely to complain, though: https://t.co/VPj7lcaQeT

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@njames @laravelphp So weird how defensive everyone gets about this. I wonder why that is?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@MattLeidholm @timbray I don't know that I'd go down to 720p but I also prefer definitely a high bitrate 1080p over a super low bitrate 4k any day!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@scottalias @bmike that's a great example. Any side by side photos anywhere?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@PerWiklander @bmike It's a deep and interesting topic, but I think my research validates that 35mm is basically 4k rez, plus or minus 20 percent..

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@timbray yeah and sports is ROUGH on compression codecs too. But I blame sportsball for all the damn motion smoothing defaulting on

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@paulandstorm @siracusa @rands I feel like this first tweet is so, *so* wrong that @rands was trying to invoke Cunningham's Law here.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
OK, I'm not sure we needed 4 (and I just read there's gonna be a fifth) seasons of this, exactly, but there are some *really* good scenes in season 4. The systematic training kick in the nards, to the tune of "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" .. was definitely a highlight.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
Surprisingly, Pixar *does not* render at 4k, at least as of Coco! https://t.co/ywce3aJXF0

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Jaykul @crutis2dot0 Yeah that's what I was kinda getting at. 4k seems like an endpoint to me? Higher than that starts to get.. weird.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Craigstra @rands Yeah Westworld is perfect. Stop after S1. After that it nosedived into an enormous crater. Worse than Matrix 2 and (bleh) 3.. and that's saying A LOT.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@rands oh this is totally wrong IMO. All the value in Leftovers is *after* the first season.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@SpeakingBee "When Toy Story was made it used state of the art equipment, to render the final presentation at a resolution of 1536 × 922 pixels"

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
and another variable is how the analog film was scanned .. "there is a lot of information in film. However, not all of it is usable information" https://t.co/v1k6L6DKFw

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
But there are so many variables, like "grain" https://t.co/xASDdZeaCU

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
"It is estimated that 35mm film has a digital resolution equivalent to 4K: 35mm Imax film equates to 6K, while 70mm Imax is closer to 12K." (article is from 2016 though) https://t.co/l80t7hNSPE

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@PerWiklander @bmike Yeah it seems there is a big range here, and “film” alone does not guarantee anything

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@bmike Eh, I’ve seen a bunch of old movies in 4K HDR blu-ray and I’m not sure between the film grain and everything else that old film scanning is really equivalent to recording at actual 4K digital. Any articles / references on this

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
I absolutely remember we stayed on this street in 2019 in Ukraine https://t.co/GyEdTmQWVu

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@superpatty @learc83 yeah we got into this a bit with the Oura ring and sleep tracking. Too much data, too much introspection, can be a tarpit.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@learc83 maybe, but also it's good to have some fresh air https://t.co/WnKL6AdEDN

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
worth it for the 38 special driving scene alone 🤣

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
it's funny because every time I tweet something like this, I feel like a small part of @siracusa dies inside

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@spies_please realizing you have it is the first step. It's not easy to see. I know from experience.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jarede it is today, and for the forseeable future, even more so every day

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jarede all of that is using a computer. Good luck doing any of that *without* a computer..

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@snemarch well, I do agree there should be legislation and rules about use of the data for sure. But that data will be out there whether we want it to, or not.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@SpeakingBee @tibbydudeza That one is on my list as well, thank you!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@snemarch genie not going back in the bottle on this one, I am afraid, best to embrace it

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@snemarch long term it's inevitable in my view and has significant upside

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
This one was dull but did lead to an interesting "can you hear numbers over background noise" interactive audio test. 👂 https://t.co/S2iyGfL1nc

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@edzob yeah I read a few and it is on message there as well!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@amyjokim @euphoriaHBO @dens @arainert do you recommend it? Would you watch it by yourself or with another adult?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Feld pff hardly.. there's services that cater to "dangerous" content specifically.
