Per the Puget Systems data, assuming we ship 1000 computers, all using regular RAM, 10 of those will have memory failures. Using ECC, only 4 would.

I checked a few "most efficient refrigerator" pages and it looks like around 600 kWh/year (roughly where the rightmost line is on the above graph) is still where we are. Only a "small" (10 cubic feet) fridge can do 300 kWh/year

@ChrisTotty @runclepennybags well, he has a point about Steam being big enough to dictate custom hardware (the Deck SoC is much better, GPU-wise, than all the off the shelf stuff) and sell it at cost or at a loss to make it up in later steam game sales.

@Navarr cheapest games? Mario Odyssey came out in 2017 or whatever and is currently $51 on Amazon. FIFTY ONE DOLLARS. Same with all their other high tier games. Plus the indie stuff is more expensive there. Online play costs recurring yearly $ on Switch.

I did like it in Control but I had to play at 1440p to get reasonable frame rates. Depends on the game I guess, and whether raytracing is a gimmick or an integrated part of the visual design

@jwz @DavidZipper @jonrog1 keyboard screen was inevitable. For cars, there's a middle ground with big screen plus a few select buttons that people inexplicably ignore, maybe because Tesla goes so hard in the all-screen direction.

I've never been in the "you *need* 120fps to be a real competitive gamer" camp 🙄 but giving up 60fps is a bit harder. I need to see if 40fps is enough of a sweet spot..

@CaseyFoxtrot if you want 60fps with the best possible visuals on brand new AAA games, then I'd avoid Steam Deck. But for older games, which are still great and look great? It's amazing. Like Titanfall 2 for example. It really is a little PS4.

the optional raytracing seems to be a factor, plus "the extra cost on PC of decompressing assets from storage into memory by using the CPU" 🤔 .. he saw a peak of 500mb/sec while flinging around the city (which is super fun btw)

@bendrexl @UGatuito Current sales figures don't back that up, and sales figures, in the end, are all that matter. We need deep, fundamendal advances in physics (e.g. projecting directly on the eye) for VR to be good IMO.

@EdCampion @dholth you need a 30w+ charger for that. I've seen devices like this, even chromebooks, draw up to 60w, so pay attention to the watt/amp rating on your charger! I like the Anker GaN ones.

@optilude Apple has the best hardware by far, no question there, but they have come down super hard against streaming games, plus their position on games in general has always been kinda weak.
