based on our experience, storing ASP.NET MVC Model.ViewData in the cache is very, very risky.

honestly, it would be easier/faster/cache-friendly (though serious "religious" violation) to let the user controls directly query the db.

was easier in ye olden days of each user control running its own db queries, thus enabling partial caches..

caching with ASP.NET MVC is kind of a challenge; by the time the one-per-page Controller runs you've done all the heavy database work. Hmm.
