It just dawned on me that the boring old USB 3 port on your machine is many times faster than the gigabit ethernet port next to it. 10 Gbps (1.25 GB/sec) vs 1 Gbps (125 MB/sec). I hope 2.5 Gbps ethernet ports become the standard soon; seeing it on a few recent PCs / mobos.
