Also I’ve done plenty of dumb things, like any other human, so I don’t mean “everyone else” here. I mean all of us. The privilege of being a white dude is that most of the time people ignore you and leave you alone, you rarely get piled on.

A lot of times I’ll see that someone did a dumb thing and .. it’s so dumb I feel the only appropriate response is to ignore it? Must an infinite number of people speak out about {thing} to decry its badness? Is that.. proportionate?

when doing the whole “look at the dumb thing this one person said” thing ... are we accidentally publicizing the opinions of a minuscule number of folks and making those sentiments look & feel far more prevalent than they are?

Elected officials already hold special privileges in society, so "immune from algorithmic speech checks" is just another one they could hold, and then 99% of everyone else benefits from those checks!
