@PolarBearFarm @MCKrempel @dj_ir0ngruve sounds like you can also replace worn out (or underperforming) individual "nodes" of the battery as well? 🤔 makes sense if the battery is a collection of parts rather than one big monolithic thing

In Reply To @Frang
@Frang this does not seem workable based on the weight, size, and handling risk of batteries that size.. plus the whole design of the car would need to accommodate rapid "cartridge" changeout. We can't even do this on freakin' PHONES so.. uh..

@markjnet https://t.co/xWysSQK9VH looks like a range of 9.81 cents / kWh to 33.43 cents / kWh so yeah.. almost 3x range, though Hawaii is a big outlier. It's "only" about 2x if you account for that.

In Reply To @ohmz
@ohmz I'm skeptical of this hot-swap idea based on the volume, weight, and handling danger of said batteries. Changing that out would NOT be easy, plus the design of the car would need to offer easy access etc. We can't even do this on PHONES!

@c64_gio Per my earlier tweets, if your range is 200 miles (aka 322 kilometers) every day, you are totally safe with a level 2 charger, assuming 10 hours of home charging per day while you are sleeping. You DO sleep, yes? 😴

In Reply To @codinghorror
This makes me wonder what electric "gas stations" are going to be like in practice, Because even at level 3 that's 1.3% battery per minute.. you'd need at least 10 minutes hanging around at the er.. electricity station.. to "fill up" to 13%.
avatar
Jeff Atwood @codinghorror
Aug 2, 2019, 2:43:04 AM
In Reply To @codinghorror
So let's see, time from 0 to 80% battery level 1 (120v) - 40 hours level 2 (240v) - 10 hours level 3 (100kw) - 1 hour

Jeff Atwood @codinghorror
Aug 2, 2019, 2:37:41 AM

the good news is level 2 chargers aren't complicated, they're basically "washer / dryer" electrical hookups, 240v, and they charge 4x faster. So instead of 2% charge per hour, you'll get 8% per hour. Now you can safely drive 200 miles per day, if that's your jam.
