@hkarthik start to get millions of rows in your tables and you can't get sloppy, *period*. Obviously everything is fast for small n.

@schambers *all* ORMs are compromises, and 99% of most application performance comes from hitting the DB. Tricky to balance that.

@schambers it's a religious issue, fundamentally; I am in the "database-as-model" camp. Without "O" there's no ORM problem to deal with.

@wbm the point is that the abstraction becomes an obfuscation; it's hard to tell when you're making a (*very* expensive) trip to the db.

@nkohari the point of ORMs is to abstract away all the complexity. But they can't -- and db perf *matters* - which is why they're so leaky.
