Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mathowie I thought this got easier as kids get older??

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Beschizza worked for The Daily Show!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Beschizza the satire worked though, which is the ultimate compliment

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mathowie I think it is like being married, it is a constantly evolving relationship. And sometimes you fall out of love.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mathowie one thing specific to Slack is the "respond as fast as you can" escalation problem. Sometimes you need/want/must slow down.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mathowie it is a very hard problem. I recommend the latter half of this talk https://t.co/86exp7zU3l

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@balpha I can also recommend https://t.co/zjCQGXkjc4

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@balpha I struggled to make it through that talk. If you want to feel, try this one: https://t.co/YCxUIUb6WI

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mholt6 mostly for speed. We use Ruby on Discourse and it is.. uh.. not fast.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@balpha these TED not-at-the-real-ted talks are not up to the usual TED standards. Also, being numb is awesome.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Beschizza (shakes fist) gingers!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@SparkyRobot @maijasauna I have done the challenge at the JB factory near us. The bad flavors are ... quite bad.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@john_lam well that one is not nvme so be careful. Try 950 pro

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@tenderlove I award this no hearts, and my God have mercy on your soul

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@krmaher livery is such a fun word; applies to cars too

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mjmilan @blakeyrat yeah, and good thing, too -- I offered $10k for it to be gone.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@blakeyrat sorry, I should have amended that to "what your non-psychotic users do"

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@FakeRobotGamer so you are referring to the chat rooms? If you have specifics post them on https://t.co/MVKbgsCznt

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@asmeurer unlikely, see https://t.co/wdD8EIXC2K

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jakemcgraw your words can be so hurtful

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@blumerdeluxe why? are you canadian?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@johnolilly .... in Indiana

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Gryzor I blocked this crap account months ago, they are the worst

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@aanttila Google Octane results on macbook: 25k, compared to 20k on iPad Pro

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@michaelpryor @deadprogrammer yes! I think this is most likely big change in *our* lifetimes. Kids another matter..

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@beschizza it’s not really the same, e.g. Cher. Just a guess though. Prince I think knew the value of authenticity.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@beschizza I don’t think Prince would have dealt well with serious aging. My gut says that’s why he decided to check out when he did.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@kevindente Skylake only everything earlier is dead to me forever

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@longbored already deleted and I blocked that user

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@bswierczynski @mattlieberman look at the data here and see what it tells you https://t.co/voM1sJjq6R

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mattcutts @ftrain strategy tax is a hell of a drug

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@siracusa it's unlikely to be a problem for me, but I tend to agree not having one port on each side, at least, is kind of lame.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@siracusa shame about the single port, though.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@mathowie I ain't never not doing that always

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@kevindente yeah at idle. Check your idle clock speed. Mine is 800Mhz right now on a 6700k! https://t.co/658vPFBqs0

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@kevindente nah I got midrange Skylake. That ain't slow!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@migueldeicaza spoiler alert they are all about JavaScript

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@JasonPunyon FINAL COUNTDOWN INTRO RIGHT NOW PUNYON

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@psiinon I did not feel it went in a productive direction. My fault. I am very angry about "terrorist" security tool threats that waste time

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@psiinon we have spent weeks on utter bullshit from these tools. They are the worst.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@dortzur 64gb is pretty easy to obtain on desktops these days

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Beschizza can with html, which is supposed to be supported in Markdown

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@KristyT the usual kickstarter disaster story, so pretty bad. I'd be cautious here.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@KristyT previous kickstartered windows air conditioners have ended.. poorly

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@damienkatz pointcast is still on its way up. Slow burn

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@andymerrill a great movie

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@StuartKearney I would, with extreme prejudice

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@JasonPunyon maybe via blog entries, not via one on one interaction with every person on the planet, which is now possible

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@bardhub @Nick_Craver nah you just buy them an iPad like everyone else. new iPads are CRAZY fast by the way. Crazyfast.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@textfiles ha ha I have that shirt COPYCAT

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@JasonPunyon @Nick_Craver should be defined as a BDSM term, so everyone involved needs to know their safe word. Mine is PHP

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@waxpancake @joshmillard we need an Internet of things remote controlled water spray bottle

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@jjgomezs looks like this applies only to optional Xen package? I am doing 100% stock install, no options except OpenSSH

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@joshmillard if you crack enough terrible puns he might kick you out of the cab without requiring payment

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@vogelchr @koalallama @dougedey not the issue; the issue is I can't figure out ANY sequence in Ubuntu 16 LTS setup that boots.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@LasPent I don't own any optical media or any optical drives

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@koalallama @dougedey yes exactly but I don't know what to do to fix

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@RRRAH you kids with your snapchats

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@dougedey there is only one drive in the system the other is usb install flash drive

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@wonderlandblog @johnolilly I love these. you've seen @manwhohasitall ? gold. pure GOLD. It is so strange to read the genderbent versions

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@johnolilly you should smile more, John. Chin up! Things aren't so bad!

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@kevindente this is actually on a server.. soo....

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@wilshipley now I don't even like you any more after seeing this

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@ftrain The CMS did it, on The Daily News, with a Bad Workflow

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Nick_Craver it is 1u so .. the usual. Hoping the all copper 1u heat sink I ordered helps. Would have been nice to have a damn tdp warning

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@DrPizza still, any "load that scales reasonably to each core" of unspecified type will almost certainly be much higher than 140w

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Nick_Craver so the 140w tdp rating is the same on both CPUs, but measured is 180w (4) and 250w (6). 250w is HUGE diff, 180w is OK.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Nick_Craver possible, there is power variance between CPUs but 250w measured is a very big jump from 180w. And heat sinks are rated for TDP

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Nick_Craver that is what it literally says on the console. Literally exactly those words. So... yes? 180w to 250w is a big jump in 1u

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Nick_Craver the idea is that lower clock rate (barely, 3.7 vs 3.5) compensates to keep power usage ~"the same" for 6 vs 4 cores. Did not

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Nick_Craver e.g. Heat sinks are rated for tdp, go look it up. That is why I bought an all copper heat sink for this one. It is throttling

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Nick_Craver the only way it'd be valid is if you ran code that did not scale to more than 4 cores. Then power consumption is same.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Nick_Craver wildly incorrect moving from 4 to 6 cores though. Way off.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@AprilSwisher5 I feel your pain sister stay strong 👊

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@ironicsans given the avenger-y bent (though Ghost Rider? Spiderman?) almost certainly Black Widow

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@kevindente HA HA HAAA HA HAHAHAHAHAH (cough)

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Teddy_Brosevelt oh yeah shoot didn't think of that. Sorry Dan :(

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@seesharp Science! For any occasion! https://t.co/qQDqkCGVIL

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@rossrubin @RobTiffany @voxdotcom also the Intel Atom disaster, the "good enough" arm competitor that was nowhere near good enough

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@JasonPunyon between $1 and $∞ am I doing this right?

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@wilshipley why you gotta hate on Black Canary? Not like Banshee from the X-Men was so awesome, man.

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@PatC @NathanBowers Pat "crazy eyes" Castaldo

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@joshk oh man that's a tough final four bracket. Good luck! ;)

Jeff Atwood
@codinghorror
@Nick_Craver @kevinmontrose you are missing the point. UNIX won because it was crappy and mostly the same, forever. That's the narrative.
